Takeaways from Eco-Schools Teacher in Spain, Estefanía Pérez Solís
Winner of the TeachersCOP Award at COP30
Eco-Schools teacher Estefanía Pérez Solís from Algeciras represented Spain at COP30, where her students’ project Costa Futura received the TeachersCOP award. Her work focuses on empowering students to understand local climate impacts and propose real solutions for their community. Below is her reflection on the experience and the project:
*“I am really happy to be able to share our project worldwide. To be selected among 327 projects from all over the world was already an award, to win the TeachersCOP was a dream come true for a teacher like me, who wants her students to save the planet!
COSTA FUTURA: We read that the city council has a budget for floods due to climate change. Students realized that their beach, houses and high school might disappear during this century. So, we studied about Climate change, the main effect in our city: sea level rise and its consequences on our coast. To avoid them, they proposed solutions to mitigate climate change and limit the sea level rise, through filming a scientific video. City council will distribute it to schools and associations in Algeciras to raise awareness among all citizens and take action to mitigate climate change.”
