Job Title: Communications Intern for Sustainable Tourism Programmes, 4-6 months, unpaid
Starting: 15 February 2027

Are you passionate about communications and sustainability and looking for an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an international non-profit environmental organisation? Join the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and support the communication activities of Green Key and Blue Flag, two of our global sustainability programmes. As part of our international team, you will help create engaging content, share good practices from across our global network, and develop communication and educational materials that support more sustainable tourism.

ABOUT FEE

The Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) is one of the world’s largest environmental education organisations, with members in over 85 countries. Through our global network and our six programmes: Blue Flag, Green Key, Eco-Campus, Eco-Schools, Learning about Ecosystems & Forests (LEAF), and Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE), we empower people to take meaningful environmental action and promote Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

The Foundation for Environmental Education’s Head Office is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and currently brings together individuals from a diverse range of nationalities and backgrounds.

FEE is committed to fostering a culture of belonging, inclusion, and environmental justice within our network and in all our communications.

ABOUT GREEN KEY

Green Key is an international sustainability certification programme for tourism establishments. The certificate is awarded to establishments that have been assessed against Green Key’s published criteria, developed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in consultation with relevant external stakeholders. The criteria cover various areas including environmental practices, social responsibility, sustainability education and operational management. The assessment process includes a review of documented evidence and an on-site audit based on a representative sample of evidence to determine whether the establishment meets the applicable criteria at the time of assessment. Regular assessments and periodic renewal requirements encourage continuous improvement in the areas covered by the programme.

Green Key is available to hotels, hostels, small accommodations, campsites, holiday parks, conference centres, restaurants, and attractions.

ABOUT BLUE FLAG

The iconic Blue Flag is an internationally recognised voluntary sustainability programme for beaches, marinas, and tourism boats.

In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a comprehensive set of environmental, educational, safety and accessibility criteria must be met. Sites and operators must demonstrate compliance with applicable criteria and maintain compliance during the award period.

Central to the ideals of the Blue Flag programme is the aim of connecting the public with their surroundings and encouraging them to learn more about their environment. As such, environmental education activities must be offered and promoted in addition to a display of information relevant to the site in terms of biodiversity, ecosystems and environmental phenomena.
