Make a Change with the Litter Less Campaign!

What is the Litter Less Campaign?

The Litter Less Campaign is an environmental literacy project that can be run in both formal and non-formal educational settings. Due to its visibility and wide-spread nature, litter is a simple way to introduce children and youth to environmental issues and topics. Through the Litter Less Campaign, students learn about different types of litter and waste and adopt a hands-on strategy to reducing and preventing litter and waste in their school and local community. The knowledge and skills gained through the Litter Less Campaign strengthen students’ environmental literacy, promote sustainable behaviour change and help shape students into environmental leaders.

How does it work?

Currently, the Litter Less Campaign is running in 20 countries. In nine of these countries, the Litter Less Campaign is being run with the support of our partners, the World Organisation for Scouts Movement (WOSM) and UNESCO Associate Schools Network (ASPnet).

Despite being called a campaign, the Litter Less Campaign is meant to be implemented as a long-term environmental literacy programme in both schools and non-formal educational settings. There’s two ways a school can join the campaign – through our Eco-Schools programme or through our Young Reporters for the Environment programme.
