Our dedicated and hard-working members are the force which drives the Foundation for Environmental Education to ever greater achievements
— Jan Eriksen, founding member and former President of the Foundation for Environmental Education

The strength of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) lies undoubtedly in its members and their professionalism, dedication and inexhaustible drive to see their FEE programmes succeed and make a difference. Motivated by the desire to improve the environmental situation in their countries and promote education for sustainable development amongst all levels of society, these organisations have been hand-picked by FEE for their exceptional sense of purpose when it comes to making environmental protection a reality.

With members hailing from 76 countries from all around the globe, our diversity and the scale of our membership is unparalleled in the realm of educating for sustainable development. This cultural diversity comes to the fore at a biennial General Assembly which provides a platform for members to meet each other face-to-face and share their work, consulting on any issues they may have and ultimately strengthening the ties that make the Foundation for Environmental Education the close-knit and dynamic organisation that it is.

Already recognised by UNESCO as a world-leader within the fields of Environmental Education and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the same organisation recently acknowledged the Foundation for Environmental Education as having an important role to play in the future advancement of ESD policy. Such recognition reflects the work our members have accomplished and highlights the ever-increasing respect and admiration which the Foundation for Environmental Education commands.

Securing membership of the Foundation for Environmental Education proves to the world that a country is serious when it comes to tackling their environmental concerns. Recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as being a world-leader within the fields of Environmental Education (EE) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), the Foundation for Environmental Education is comprised of five programmes aimed at limiting environmental degradation and progressing systems of sustainable living.

The Foundation for Environmental Education runs some of the most progressively-minded environmental programmes in the world. We are dedicated to changing the way young people see and interact with their environments through initiatives such as Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE), Eco-Schools and Learning About Forests (LEAF). In the maritime industry and tourism sector our two eco-label programmes, the Blue Flag and Green Key, are known around the world, offering peace of mind to the growing number of tourists who make environmental credibility a central criterion to where they holiday.

Every new FEE member is immediately assigned a mentor to help guide them through the initial stages of establishing our programmes. These mentors are drawn from the FEE Board of Directors itself and are experts in the fields of business, environment and education. These individuals are driven by the desire to see all of our members succeed and will work closely with you to get your programme up and running, sharing their wealth of experience and making sure your transition to full FEE member is a smooth and uncomplicated one.

Our reach is truly world-wide and operates at the highest levels across the globe. By joining our ranks you will be accessing a network which is comprised of some of the biggest players and most advanced thinkers of the environmental and sustainability sectors. As a member, the Foundation for Environmental Education enables you to meet and network with your contemporaries from other countries and exchange information on current trends and best practices.
